HERON Advanced Water Solutions

Complete water system architecture—from advanced control logic and filtration to precision irrigation and infrastructure design.
Systems Design & InfrastructureEvery project starts here. Before a valve is specified or a pipe is laid, the hydraulic logic needs to be right — pressure zones, flow rates, pipe sizing, pump selection, and network topology designed around the actual demands of the site.Hydraulic Network Design — Primary and secondary distribution lines, pressure management, and pump infrastructure sized for the property's real conditions.Multi-Source Integration — Designing systems that handle boreholes, rainwater, reservoirs, and municipal supply as a single managed network.Scalable Architecture — Infrastructure built to absorb future expansion without redesign.

Advanced Control & Automation
This is the "brain" of the operation. We use technology to eliminate waste and provide real-time oversight of your resources.Intelligent Control Systems:
Real-Time Remote Monitoring: Monitor flow, pressure, and tank levels from your smartphone or desktop, anywhere in the world.Intelligent Automation: Self-regulating systems that respond instantly to environmental changes, soil moisture, and weather forecasts.Critical Alerts & Analytics: Automated SMS/Email notifications for leak detection, pump failures, or pressure drops—stopping problems before they become catastrophes.System Integration: Synchronizing boreholes, filtration units, and irrigation networks into one seamless, automated ecosystem.Intelligent Pump Control & VFD Integration — Variable frequency drive systems for pressure-stable, energy-efficient pump operation. Working alongside certified electricians and specialist panel builders, I design and commission smart pump controllers — including Grundfos and third-party assemblies — that maintain constant pressure across varying demand, protect against dry-run and surge, and integrate directly into the wider site automation network.Certified installer — Control & Automation Platforms
The right controller is determined by the scale of the project, the required communication range, and the complexity of the automation logic. These platforms are listed from highest to lowest capability.
Tal-Gil Large-scale agricultural operations. Unlimited range.
The most powerful RTU-based platform in our stack. A single DREAM2 manages up to 999 outputs across a distributed RF network with a base radio range of 3km per hop, extendable up to 30km by repeating — making it the only solution where distance is effectively unlimited. The wired 2W RTU variant extends to 10km radius via cable. Full fertigation, pH/EC control, SDI-12 sensor integration, and weather station logic. Built for operations where no compromise is acceptable.Progres A Precision fertigation. RTU coverage up to 2.5km.
The platform of choice when closed-loop nutrient control is the priority. AgroBee-L LoRa RTU modules reach up to 2,500m per module from the coordinator — sufficient for most estate and mid-scale agricultural projects. Advanced pH/EC regulation, multi-program fertigation, and full remote management via app and PC. Where Talgil is about scale, Agrónic is about precision chemistry.Solem/Irriot Wireless field automation. RTU up to 5–10km open terrain.
LoRa-based RTU systems for projects where cabling is either cost-prohibitive or physically impossible. Solar-powered, maintenance-free field units with no grid dependency. Irriot covers 5–10km in open rural conditions; Solem handles similar wireless reach with low-power Bluetooth for close-range config. No complex fertigation logic — these are automation platforms for on/off valve control with sensor feedback. The right choice for mid-scale plots, remote parcels, and off-grid infrastructure.Hunter Smart commercial and estate control. No RTU. WiFi/wired architecture.
No radio sub-controllers — Hunter operates on a direct wired or WiFi-connected model. Lower infrastructure cost, faster deployment. The Hydrawise cloud platform delivers weather-based scheduling, app control, flow monitoring, and leak detection. The right tool for estates, villas, and commercial landscapes that need proven smart automation without the complexity or cost of a full RTU network.

Water Purity, Filtration & QualityNot all water sources are usable as-is. Saline boreholes, hard water, sediment-heavy supplies — each requires a different engineering response.I design and install multi-stage filtration systems matched to the actual chemistry of your source water and the sensitivity of what you're irrigating.Particle & Sediment Filtration — Protecting downstream equipment and emitters from clogging and wear.
Automatic Self-Cleaning Filtration — Disc and screen filter systems by Arkal, Amiad, Netafim, and Lama. Hydraulic and electric backflush configurations selected based on flow rate, water quality, and maintenance requirements. No manual cleaning, no clogged emitters, no downtime.Mineral & Metal Filtration — removing high concentrations of iron, manganese, calcium, and other minerals that cause rust staining, scale buildup, and long-term damage to pipes, pumps, and irrigation infrastructure..Reverse Osmosis & Blending — For high-salinity sources, RO permeate is blended with raw water to hit precise salinity targets — without discarding the existing borehole infrastructure.
FEATURED PROJECTS
Quinta Vale de Lama — Organic Farm, Algarve
Precision Retrofit · Agrónic Agrobee RTU Network · Advanced Sensing
Complete modernisation of an existing irrigation infrastructure on a working commercial organic farm growing vegetables and fruit trees. The legacy system of standalone controllers was decommissioned and replaced with a centralised Agrónic platform — 27 RTUs and 45 electrovalves distributed across the farm, all managed from a single point. Integrated soil moisture sensing, automated water reservoir management, weather station input, and flow metering give the farm operator full visibility and precision control over every irrigation decision.

QDC Botanic Garden — Quinta da Comporta, Algarve:
Full System Architecture · 3-Stage Filtration · Irriot RTU Network
Ground-up design and installation of a complete water system for an 11-zone botanic garden. The control infrastructure is built on a wireless Irriot RTU network, eliminating cable runs across the site. Water quality is handled by a three-stage filtration train — particle filtration, water softening, and reverse osmosis — ensuring irrigation water meets the exacting standards of a botanical environment. One of the most complete water system builds in our portfolio.
Tavira Off-Grid Villa — Algarve
Three-Source Water Architecture · Smart Management · Zero Grid Dependency
Whole-system design for a fully off-grid private villa in the old Tavira town.
The installation integrates three independent water sources — a 10-metre well, rainwater harvesting, and a grid-water backup — into a single automated management system that prioritises, switches, and balances between sources based on availability and demand. The result is a resilient, self-sufficient water infrastructure that operates without human intervention under normal conditions.

Sao-Luís Area Farm — Alentejo
Full Irrigation Network:Pressurised Fire Safety System
Complete irrigation network design and installation covering orchards, vineyard, and gardens across the property. Alongside the irrigation infrastructure, a fully independent pressurised fire protection system was engineered and installed — including hydrants and roof sprinklers — designed and sized to operate as a standalone safety system entirely separate from the irrigation network.

Orchard of Flavors — Luz, Tavira, Algarve
Reverse Osmosis Blending System · Salinity Management · Botanic Irrigation
Design and installation of a custom reverse osmosis blending system for a 2.5-hectare botanic orchard. The challenge: a high-salinity borehole as the sole water source — unusable at raw levels for sensitive trees. The solution: a dedicated RO unit producing clean permeate, blended in controlled ratios with the existing borehole water to bring salinity down to the precise tolerance of the planting. The system runs at 6m³/hour, delivering consistent, calibrated water quality across the entire site without abandoning the existing borehole infrastructure. A technically precise answer to one of the Algarve's most common agricultural water problems.
Ourique Area Farm— Alentejo
800m Main Line · Smart RTU Infrastructure · Dual-Use Water Supply
Design and installation of a complete water infrastructure backbone for a rural farm property. An 800-metre primary line serves seven offtake points, each equipped with smart RTU-controlled electrovalves handling both irrigation and general water supply. The system gives the farm operator remote control and monitoring across the full length of the property from a single interface.
Ocean Farm — Rogil, Algarve

Full design and physical installation of a primary water distribution network spanning 2 kilometres. The line delivers multiple offtake points serving both irrigation and general water use across the property — built for long-term reliability and future expansion.

About
Water infrastructure in the Algarve is unforgiving. Saline boreholes, seasonal drought, aging pipe networks, and properties that span distances most controllers weren't designed for. Most solutions here are either too simple for the problem, or imported from contexts that don't apply.I am Ziv Dekel, founder of Heron Water Solutions. With 10+ years designing and installing hydraulic systems — first in Israel, then Portugal since 2022 — I've built water infrastructure for farms, estates, and rural properties across the Algarve and Alentejo, from single boreholes to multi-source networks spanning kilometers.I work at the intersection of hydraulic designe and remote automation: pressure zones, pump selection, and pipe sizing on one side; water quality and filtration; RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) networks, fertigation logic, and real-time monitoring on the other. The result is one system, not a patchwork of half-compatible parts. If your property has a water problem that off-the-shelf solutions haven't solved, let's talk.
